Last night, Mike and I were disgusted with the crap that's on t.v. right now. So, I stuck in one of my favorite dvd's of all time, "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory".
My sissy gave me this dvd 2 Christmases ago. I have watched it since, but last night I was in the mood for a musical, I guess. I had forgotten how much I truly loved this movie. I laughed, I cried, I really enjoyed the movie and the extras.
In the documentary, included on the 25th anniversary dvd, Gene Wilder (Willy Wonka) commented on what a wonderful legacy it has been for him through the years. He said he still has people ask if they can tell THEIR kids "That's Willy Wonka!". Wow! As much as I enjoyed the "NEW" Willy Wonka (portrayed by Johnny Depp, my celebrity crush), Gene Wilder will ALWAYS be the REAL Willy Wonka to me.
I especially liked all the wonderful quotes Mr. Wonka spoke in the movie. Here are a few I remember:

And my favorite quote of all is when Wonka and his guests are on the "Wonkatania" in the tunnel. The oompa loompas are rowing fast as lightening. The "guests" are freaking out. SO, naturally, Wonka begins reciting a poem. Here it is: (Oh, and by the way, NO ONE could or can deliver this line like Gene Wilder!)

If you've never seen this movie, RENT it NOW! It's so much fun and a Jen favorite! I highly recommend!

You're SO right, I was just watching some of the Johnny Depp movie last weekend and couldn't get into it, Gene will always be THE Willy Wonka! :) I have to rent that this weekend, I've been itching to watch it! I LOVE the quotes you chose to post as well, especially "Oh! You can't go back...Gotta go forward to go back"
